Kansas City NWSL and Sporting Kansas City announced tonight that KC’s inaugural home game on Monday, April 26th has moved from Field of Legends to Children’s Mercy Park. According to KC NWSL’s COO Amber Cox the reason for the move was because of construction delays at the team’s home stadium. The date and time of the game against the Houston Dash remains the same as it will kick off at 7:30 on Monday night. The club has been told by the KC Monarchs that construction will be done for their final Challenge Cup group game on May 3rd.
Attendance for the game will be limited to only KC NWSL season ticket members and youth soccer clubs due to capacity restrictions.
The game will see NWSL soccer return to Kansas City for the first time since September 29, 2017 when FC Kansas City drew their last home game against the Dash 1-1 at Children’s Mercy Victory Field in Swope Park.
It’ll be the third NWSL game at Children’s Mercy Park as FCKC hosted their 2015 and 2016 home openers at the stadium drawing 8,849 in 2015 and 8,022 in 2016, the two highest attended games in FCKC history.
