Sporting Kansas City II (0-2-1, 1 point) did not have a good night as they were blanked by the Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC (1-1-0, 3 points) in a 4-0 loss. Hadji Barry had two goals and Michee Ngalina added a goal and a pair of assists to lead the visitors to victory.
It did not take long for the Switchbacks to jump out in front. Ngalina slid a low cross through the box that to the far post that Austin Dewing redirected into the net for his first professional goal in the 7th minute.
The Switchbacks doubled the lead a few minutes later when they were awarded a penalty after Barry was tripped up as he was going past Sporting Kansas City keeper Kendall McIntosh. The former SKC II forward stepped up to the spot himself and put it in the net.
Colorado Springs earned another penalty kick after a flurry of action in the SKC II box that resulted in a shot being blocked by defensive midfielder Petar Cuic’s arm. Ngalina stepped up to take this effort for Colorado Springs but his first attempt was saved by McIntosh. Referee Jervis Atagana consulted with his assistant and it was determined that the SKC II goalkeeper left his line early. Ngalina did not waste his second chance and Colorado led 3-0 in the 36th minute.
While the night was already not going well for SKC II, it became even worse when defender Matt Constant was given a straight red for an elbow to Ngalina. Barry also received a yellow in the incident when he came to his teammates defense and pushed Constant over.
The second half saw SKC II have a little more possession despite being a man down, probably a combo of them picking up the pace a bit and the visitors sitting on a substantial lead. Despite the better effort by the home side, Barry made it 4-0 with a nice effort and shot low to the far corner in the 64th minute.
The two teams combined for ten cards with 5 yellows to Colorado Springs and 4 yellows and the red for SKC II. Colorado Springs also committed 22 fouls to with SKC II adding another 14 in a physical match.
