Sporting KC II got their first road point of the season with a 1-1 draw at Dignity Health Sports Park against LA Galaxy II on Wednesday, May 19.

Despite coming off a bad 4-0 loss less than a week ago, SKC II came out and played well on the road with a different lineup, which included the SKC II debut of defender Aljaz Dzankic and the season debut of Bailey Sparks.

SKC II went into halftime scoreless for the second time this season, previously doing it in their only other draw this season, a 1-1 tie with the OKC Energy. LA’s best chance came in the 37th minute when former SKC II signee Preston Judd’s header was saved by Kendall McIntosh.

After some great buildup, SKC II found the breakthrough in the 60th minute when Ropapa Mensah recovered his rebound off the post along the end line, remained composed, and found Dominik Resetar, who couldn’t miss from six yards out in front of an open goal.

The lead did not last long, as LA leveled it at 1-1 in the 73rd minute after Jorge Hernández’s deflected shot snuck past McIntosh.

SKC II were able to end the match strong and come away with a point on the road for the first time this season, remaining unbeaten against Galaxy II in six matches.

Wednesday’s win brings SKC II to two points this season with two losses and two draws. They remain in seventh place in the Central Division ahead of only Memphis 901 FC.

Sporting II will hit the road again this Saturday, May 22, for a match against the Indy Eleven at Carroll Stadium.
