After a busy week last week, where KC NWSL went 0 for 3 in six days, the team returns to the pitch, traveling to New Jersey to face NY/NJ Gotham FC, marking the first meeting in 2021 between the two sides.

Will KC finally win?

This may be a recurring title until Kansas City records its first win, but even though the team has yet to gain a victory, the streak of games without a goal is over. Kansas City NWSL was able to get the lead in the team’s last two matches against the Orlando Pride and Washington Spirit. Now it’s a matter of holding on to those leads or being able to come back.

They’ll face a team on Friday that has a strong defense, so the task for KC to break through early may be difficult this time around. NJ/NY has allowed just two goals in 6 matches, the lowest goals-conceded-per-game average of all teams this season (0.33), recording 4 shutouts along the way.

KC once again will be without key players: Elizabeth Ball and Abby Smith are out with an injury, and Desiree Scott and Chloe Logarzo are with their respective national teams. It will be up to Captain Amy Rodriguez and newcomer Jéssica Silva, who has delivered an assist in Kansas City’s last two matches to lead the attack, and for Rachel Corsie and Nicole Barnhart to command the defense.
