For only three league games, it’s a busy day of MLS action with three other teams involved in other competitions. CF Montreal and Toronto FC are participating in the Canadian Championship today and the Seattle Sounders are facing off against Club Leon in the Leagues Cup final. Those games won’t have a direct effect on Sporting KC’s league standings, though the lineup Seattle puts out could have an effect on their trip to KC on Sunday for a league game.
Here’s a look at the games that could have an effect on KC’s standings in the league. It’s all Eastern Conference match ups though so it will only have an effect on potential MLS Cup match ups.
Nashville at Miami
What we want to happen: Miami win
Nashville SC is five points behind KC while Inter Miami is 14 back with both teams having 10 games left. Miami making up 14 points in those 10 games is a lot harder than Nashville making up five points.
New England at Chicago
What we want to happen: Chicago win
The Chicago Fire have just half KC’s point total, sitting on 23 points. They can technically still catch KC, but it seems extremely unlikely. KC catching the New England Revolution who are 10 points ahead of KC seems just as unlikely, but the ability to catch them is still there so Sporting want the Revs dropping points.
NYCFC at New York
What we want to happen: New York win
The New York Red Bulls have a couple games in hand on KC, but sit on 26 points, 20 behind Sporting. NYCFC sit eight points back with one game in hand. So for a potential MLS Cup match up, KC want NYCFC to drop the points in the Hudson River Derby.
